Regional Capital FundRSS

The Regional Capital Fund is open to local governments of provincial cities and surrounding rural areas.


Local government eligibility has been determined on geographical grounds using the Australian Bureau of Statistics' (ABS) Remoteness Structure, which divides each state and territory into several regional categories, providing a measure of remoteness for each local government area.


Local governments eligible for funding under the Regional Capital Fund are those categorised by the ABS as predominately 'Inner Regional' and/or 'Outer Regional'. These include:

Bromelton State Development Area Stage 1 Trunk Watermain
A reticulated water main from the Beaudesert Water Treatment Plant to Stage 1 of the Bromelton State Development Area (SDA) is providing the critical infrastructure needed to grow jobs and investment.

Bundaberg Region Multi-use Sports and Community Centre
Residents of Bundaberg and surrounds will have no excuses not to get fit and have fun when the Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) offers a wide range of activities, youth programs, school-age care and gym/fitness options at the purpose-built centre.

Collins Avenue Bridge Renewal
Replacing the ageing Collins Avenue Bridge will improve flood mitigation, provide safer access for cyclists and pedestrians, and offer better conditions for drivers—particularly those of heavy vehicles—in this critical upgrade to the Edge Hill, Captain Cook Highway and Cairns Airport connection.

The delivery of a new water treatment plant will mean the community has a safe and reliable supply of drinking and washing water free of discolouration from iron and manganese, and toxins associated with blue-green algae.

Mission Beach Aquatic Facility
The year-round fun sporting and recreational facility in MARCS Park will give residents and tourists not only an alternative to venturing into the stinger-infested ocean in summer, but also a place to gather for social events.

Mount Morgan Sewerage Extension Project
Another 88 properties, including 11 north of the Dee River that have non-compliant wastewater systems, will be connected to reticulated sewerage, ending public health issues, saving council time and money in dealing with overflows, and bringing the number of connected properties to 450.

A new reservoir and water mains will alleviate issues—including low pressure, insufficient storage and deteriorating pipes—and ensure adequate supplies during the dry season and peak tourism times.

A new pond sewerage treatment plant and associated infrastructure in Howard will service a larger commercial area and development of an aged care facility, also complementing the existing wastewater treatment system that is operating at full capacity.

Maryborough Portside Cultural Precinct – Stage 3
This restoration and adaptive reuse of Maryborough's historic Portside precinct will complete the development of the creative hub, providing an integrated cultural tourism experience.

Necessary water and sewerage trunk infrastructure at Nikenbah will enable development of proposed commercial and educational facilities as well as the Fraser Coast sports precinct.

A new reservoir, trunk water main and pipelines will improve capacity and distribution of Herberton's water supply.

Pedestrians and cyclists will have safer access to the coastline and local attractions when a 1.3km long and 2.6m wide concrete share-path from the Esplanade to Urangan Boat Harbour within the Margaret Street road reserve is constructed.

Wellcamp Water Reservoir Project
A 8.2ML reservoir at Wellcamp will ensure long-term continuity of supply and reduce the risk of limitations during times of peak usage.

Wheatleys Hill Water Reservoir
Water storage capacity to supply the areas of South Mission Beach and Wongaling Beach will be increased with construction of a new 4.5ML reinforced concrete reservoir adjacent to the existing 0.7ML reservoir at Wheatleys Hill.
