- Council: Weipa Town Authority
- Fund: Royalties for Resource Producing Communities Fund
- Category: Water/Sewerage/Waste Infrastructure
- Round: 2
Ageing pipework in Weipa’s sewer system will be upgraded to alleviate the pressure placed on the existing network as further expansions in the mining, private and government sectors continue in the area.
This project will upgrade and reline approximately 2.1km of sewer mains reducing ongoing maintenance and repair costs.
This upgrade will reduce the need for unplanned replacements of failed pipe sections, in turn reducing the risk of contaminating waterways and the area’s shallow aquifer. It will also minimise blockages in the network and reduce the possibility of health impacts associated with residents exposed to untreated effluent.
