Regional Queensland small business to trial workshop

A new small business workshop targeting Western Queensland and Darling Downs communities will be launched in Chinchilla, Warwick and Charleville on Wednesday 13 May.

The trial program is being offered free of charge by the Queensland Government to teach small businesses effective ways to manage finance and strengthen long-term stability.

The Department of State Development Darling Downs South West Regional Director John Bird said the Small Business Accounting workshop would offer participants a two-hour live video linked session with Toowoomba consultants Paperless Management Accounting.

"The workshop will guide businesses through ways to improve their core management practices including bookkeeping skills and finance administration," Mr Bird said.

"The program will trial the use of digital engagement tools, namely video link, to provide regional access to professional services in a more effective and timely manner.

"Businesses will learn how to develop meaningful cash flow charts and budgets, outline financial Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and develop reports for these KPI's, tracking where money is going and how to make better business decisions," he said.

"Video link will encourage interaction between participants and allow for real time questions and answers with the consultant."

Paperless Management Accounting Director and consultant for the event Ben Horner said it's critical for any business, big or small, to accurately evaluate performance and continually explore ways to improve business.

"The Small Business Workshop is designed to assist businesses with tools and techniques on how they can understand their business reports, produce their own and also make goals for their business long term," Mr Horner said.

Participants will receive structured follow-up including access to Mr Horner as a virtual mentor in the four weeks post workshop.

The Charleville Chamber of Commerce, Warwick Chamber of Commerce, Murweh Shire Council, Southern Downs Regional Council and Western Downs Regional Council are all working with State Government to ensure a successful program.

Those wanting to attend are urged to register as soon as possible as places are limited. The event will run from 7.30am to 9.30am. A light breakfast will be provided. For location details and to register visit www.queenslandtickets.com.au
