Establishing and expanding Hacker/Maker spaces is an important initiative within our Advanced Manufacturing Roadmap and Action Plan.

Hackerspaces are community-operated places where people with common interests share skills and knowledge. They provide a platform to raise awareness about available technologies. They also have the potential to strengthen the manufacturing industry in Queensland.

The $450,000 Queensland Hackerspace Grant Program provides funding to groups and organisations that want to establish or expand in their communities.

Round two recipients

Round two will award 13 hackerspaces with funding of up to $20,000. The program will assist five new hackerspaces to open and eight hackerspaces to expand:

In Round one, ten hackerspaces received a share of $170,000 in funding:

Manufacturers and makers are encouraged to engage with their local hackerspace. This way, industry and communities can collaborate on projects, learn new skills and embrace new technology.
