Queensland’s beautiful coastline and world-class marine environments are the envy of the world, and among our state’s leading tourism attractions. These advantages, along with our skilled workforce and excellent marine infrastructure, make us a prime location for superyacht activity.

The Queensland Superyacht Strategy 2018-23 (PDF icon 2 MB) sets out our support for growing this high-value industry under four priority action areas:

The Superyacht Strategy envisions that by 2023, Queensland will be recognised as the Asia-Pacific region’s key superyacht hub with its share of the global superyacht market having increased by 10%. This growth is expected to create thousands of new highly skilled jobs across the state and contribute hundreds of millions of dollars to our state’s economy.

Superyacht Industry Development Fund

The Superyacht Industry Development Fund supports Queensland’s small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) and not-for-profits in the superyacht supply chain to:

The second round of the fund opened on 17 December 2019 with two streams of funding available.

Stream 1: Industry Certification and Accreditation

Applications for stream 1 funding closed on Friday, 14 February 2020.

Stream 2: International Market Engagement

We’re partnering with Queensland’s two superyacht peak bodies, Superyacht Australia and Super Yacht Group Great Barrier Reef, to deliver stream 2 of the fund.

Superyacht Australia is leading consortia of eligible Queensland SMEs to the Tahiti Superyacht Rendezvous (June 2020), Monaco Yacht Show (September 2020) and Fort Lauderdale Boat Show (November 2020). The Super Yacht Group Great Barrier Reef will also lead consortia of eligible SMEs to the Tahiti Superyacht Rendezvous (June 2020) and Fiji Superyacht Rendezvous (August 2020).

Eligible businesses may participate in up to three tradeshows and we’re providing up to $3,000 in matched funding for businesses to offset eligible costs incurred from participating in these international market engagement events.

Also, Super Yacht Group Great Barrier Reef will host an international delegation to the Great Barrier Reef in May 2020 to showcase the region’s attractions and services. We’re contributing funds to help promote the capability of local Queensland businesses that service the global superyacht industry. This will include a Superyacht Information Forum featuring resident industry specialists and tours of local superyacht facilities and shipyards.
