Queensland aerospace: supporting a smarter Queensland economy

The Queensland Government is committed to supporting the state's rapidly developing and innovative aerospace industry.

Aerospace is the technology and support systems that enables flight of all civil and military aircraft—aeroplanes, helicopters and remotely piloted aircraft. It includes the design, development, manufacture, modification, testing, operation and maintenance of flight vehicles and their on-board and ground systems.

Queensland is already well-known as an aviation hub of the Asia-Pacific and has attracted a number of global leaders in the civil and defence aviation area. Queensland's existing strength in this complementary industry sector gives the state a distinct advantage for further development in the aerospace field.

In 2014–15, Queensland aerospace generated approximately $1.3 billion in revenue, of which $600 million went directly into the Queensland economy. The state's aircraft manufacturing and maintenance sector provides 4500 jobs across 344 enterprises.

Advance Queensland

The Advance Queensland program aims to build on our competitive strengths, diversify our economy and create the knowledge-based jobs of the future. Advance Queensland is driving innovation-led economic growth through increased collaboration between government, industry and research organisations.

Aerospace is an industry that has global growth potential and there is an opportunity for it to be a major contributor to jobs and the economy.

Queensland Aerospace 10-Year Roadmap

The Aerospace Roadmap is one of six being developed by the Department of State Development as part of Advance Queensland which is investing in jobs for the future by opening the door to new industry and research collaborations and by tackling the big innovation challenges.

On 3 May 2016, the Queensland Government released the Queensland Aerospace 10-Year Roadmap discussion paper (PDF icon 1.73 MB) for consultation.

Consultation now closed

Consultation on the Aerospace discussion paper closed on Friday 27 May 2016.

Feedback received on the issues explored in the discussion paper will inform the development of the Queensland Aerospace 10-Year Roadmap and Action Plan to grow this priority industry sector.

The Queensland Aerospace 10-Year Roadmap and Action Plan is scheduled for release later this year.
