The Queensland Government's Biofutures Acceleration Program (BAP) aims to attract and support development of new or expanded commercial-scale biorefinery projects in Queensland. The State's foundations of a highly skilled workforce, abundant raw materials, integrated transport systems and proximity to the growing Asian markets makes it an ideal location to develop a biorefinery. The BAP is supporting a multi-million dollar pipeline of biorefinery projects that could generate more than 330 jobs for regional Queensland.
Support for the proposed biorefinery projects came out of the Queensland Government's BAP Invitation for Expression of Interest, which closed in January 2017. A total of 120 companies indicated interest in biorefining in Queensland through the EOI, with 26 companies submitting detailed expressions of interest.
