Project information

RACQ has proposed to transform the government’s aging Mount Cotton driver training centre, located between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, it into a first-class driving centre of excellence. The world-class innovation hub would be used for government, education and industry groups to research, design and test new vehicle and road safety technologies.

RACQ proposes to invest $15 million in its development.

RACQ is undertaking further due diligence into the site and has prepared a Stage 2: Detailed Proposal for final government consideration.

MLP strengths

Alignment with government policy, priority and community need

  • Road safety is important to the community and government.

Justification for direct negotiation

  • The company is in a unique position to operate the facility due to its long history of delivering driver training and safety initiatives to frontline essential services, organisations and individuals, its 1.6 million membership base, and its network of car manufacturers and hire car companies.

Value for money

  • The government’s Mt Cotton Driver Training Centre has significant unrealised potential. The RACQ is best placed to realise this potential through its experience and expertise and will invest $15 million to upgrade the facility.

“The MLP process is a great initiative by the government. It’s been efficient and professional and there is clearly a willingness by government to make things happen.”

- Ian Gillespie, Group CEO, RACQ
