Industry 4.0 is the Fourth Industrial Revolution. It enables advanced manufacturers to connect big data and analytics with automation and robotics, improving cost, productivity, profitability and operations.

Digital technologies

Industry 4.0 digital technologies represent new ways in which technology becomes embedded within societies.

The Internet of Things (IoT)

Also known as the Industrial Internet, the Internet of Things is the connection between physical devices, such as vehicles and appliances, and the communication between them.

Big data and analytics

Big data and analytics is the examination of large and varied datasets to uncover patterns, correlations, trends, preferences, and other useful information that can help organisations with business decisions.

Software and system integration

Integrating all physical and virtual components of an organisation’s system helps to create something that acts like a single system.

Cybersecurity is the protection of internet-connected systems from cyberattacks.

Cloud computing

The cloud refers to a network of remote servers hosted on the internet, compared with a local server or a personal computer. It's used to store, manage and process data.

Additive manufacturing (3D printing)

3D printing joins or solidifies material under computer control to create a three-dimensional object, usually by successively adding material layer by layer.

Autonomous robotics and assistive technologies

Robot and other assistive technologies that performs behaviours or tasks with a high degree of autonomy.

Augmented reality

Augmented reaility is the technology that superimposes a computer-generated image on a user's view of the real world to provide a composite view.

Virtual reality

The computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional image or environment that can be interacted with in a seemingly real or physical way by a person using special electronic equipment, such as a helmet with a screen inside or gloves fitted with sensors.

Computer-led imitation of a situation or process.

We're raising awareness with seminars and practical examples of i4.0 to support our manufacturers as they become advanced manufacturers.

Introduction to Industry 4.0 Seminars

To introduce and demystify the concept of Industry 4.0, a series of seminars for manufacturers will run across Queensland to highlight the opportunities and challenges that the adoption of new technologies in manufacturing presents.

Seminars will cover design, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, advanced automation, additive manufacturing, advanced robotics, big data analytics and the current and future role of Industry 4.0 in manufacturing businesses.

futuremap series

This series builds upon the learnings gained through the Introductory i4.0 seminars.

futuremap™ – we're working with the Innovative Manufacturing Cooperative Research Centre (IMCRC) to provide a business diagnostic tool that helps small-to-medium-sized Australian manufacturers assess their current state of business and identify areas of focus and potential investment to future-proof their business and start their journey of digital transformation.

As part of either one-on-one structured discussions or interactive group workshops, manufacturers can map their maturity levels and capabilities in the areas of market positioning, leadership, strategy and change management, innovation and use of technology and digital manufacturing (Industry 4.0) to produce a point-in-time self-assessment and report that identifies opportunities for growth and potential investment.

Industry 4.0 Masterclass

Our previous Industry 4.0 masterclass sessions were presented by Dr Frank Wagner, a global expert on Industry 4.0 and innovation management.

These masterclass built on the futuremap™ workshop, focussing on specific business challenges. Attendees were able to:

  • participate in interactive exercises, gaining practical advice to assist them in their business
  • gain an in-depth understanding of the importance of strong strategic management and leadership
  • commence developing an action plan specific to their business – positioning for a competitive edge.

More information about Industry 4.0 events for 2019 will be available shortly.
