Translational Science Hub

In December 2022, the Queensland Government, Sanofi, The University of Queensland and Griffith University entered into a $280 million partnership to establish the Global Translational Science Hub (TSH) in Queensland. The TSH connects world-class researchers in Queensland with Sanofi scientists in France and the United States of America, driving vaccine development, creating jobs and strengthening our biomanufacturing supply chain.

The Statement of Cooperation recognises Queensland’s unique opportunity to leverage investment by the Queensland Government, universities and industry to transform into a globally recognised biomedical destination, and a world-leading location to conduct end-to-end R&D and commercialisation. The Statement of Cooperation sets out the strategic intention of the foundational partners, the Queensland Government, Sanofi, The University of Queensland and Griffith University, with a view to welcoming future partners, to catalyse the growth of the ecosystem and capture the potential economic benefits. Through the Statement of Cooperation, the parties aim to foster ongoing development of the vaccine and therapeutics ecosystem, and track and showcase the ecosystem’s progress and success.

The partners established a Steering Committee to oversee the partnership and help deliver the continued uplift of the biomedical ecosystem in Queensland. The Steering Committee also ensures knowledge-sharing among partners and maximises the intent for further collaborations and partnerships. While securing the benefits offered by the Global Translational Science Hub is an immediate priority, the Biomedical Ecosystem Strategy developed by the Steering Committee proposes to establish Queensland’s highly-skilled biomedical ecosystem as a sustainable, leading location of choice for conducting R&D and commercialisation, with a focus on mRNA for developing vaccines. It recognises Queensland’s strengths and proposes strategies and actions to capture opportunities for the State.
