Mossman Region Transition Program
The Queensland Government’s $12.1 million Mossman Region Transition Program will provide much-needed assistance following the liquidation of the Mossman Mill.
The focus of the initial rapid response is to help mill workers find new jobs, access upskilling or training as well as counselling services.
Mossman Region Stakeholder Advisory Committee
This committee will be established to support the delivery of the Mossman Region Transition Program. Members will include representatives from:
- Douglas Shire Council
- Douglas Chamber of Commerce
- Mossman Canegrowers
- Queensland Government agencies including the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning and Department of Agriculture and Fisheries
- Australian Government agencies
- Workforce Australia
- Community support non-government organisations.
Getting support
Support services have been mobilised to support workers, their families, small businesses and growers.
Workers are able to access subsidised training opportunities through the Fee-Free TAFE programs.
Affected small businesses can access business coaching, financial counselling and mentoring through the small business support network.

Alternative crops
Growers are also encouraged to find out more about alternative crops that have been trialled in the Mossman region.
