The Queensland Government is supporting the investigation and growth of the Future Foods industry based in the use of precision fermentation technologies.
Investing in Future Foods
The Queensland Government is investing $1 million to support the development of a business case to attract the industry or university sectors to co-develop a Future Foods BioHub in Mackay.
We are engaging with industry on what they want, and the Investing in the Mackay Future Foods BioHub prospectus ( 5.9 MB) has been released to support engagement with industry.
Led by industry, the BioHub will use advanced biomanufacturing to create new food products that are healthy, sustainable and generate jobs and opportunities that complement existing industries.
Mackay’s strengths in agriculture, horticulture and manufacturing supported by established ports and infrastructure supported its selection. The Mackay State Development Area, declared in February 2024, will further support industrial development in the Mackay Region including renewable energy and biofutures industries.
