European Train Control System (ETCS)—Inner City

Building Queensland finalised its first Business Case for ETCS—Inner City and presented it to government in May 2016. The Queensland Government subsequently committed full funding of $634.3 million to the project over the next eight years as part of its 2016–17 Budget commitments. Based on an existing European model, the project consists of an in-cab signaling control and automatic train protection system that guards against train collisions and over-speed derailment. The ETCS—Inner City project will also benefit Cross River Rail.
